This government Latur Medical College was inaugurated on 26.4. 2002. It is located in the south central part of Maharashtra. The state border of Karnataka and Andhra is 70 km from this place. The university is affiliated with MUHS, Nashik. The first batch of 100 MBBS students were admitted in July 2003. Admission is through CET/NEET (85% State CET and 15% All India PMT).
The college was created on the premises of the district hospital (200 beds). The Kasturba Gandhi Women’s Hospital (60 beds) and Eye Hospital (60 beds) run by the Maharshtra Department of Public Health were also merged. These hospitals were transferred to the Department of Medical Education along with real and personal property, including labor, on October 1, 2007. An additional 13 acres of land were made available by acquiring the land from the abandoned former Gauze Narrow Railroad. We have 53 acres of land. New hospital and university buildings were built to the latest OT design, the old building was extended to house pre and paraclinical departments.
The first batch admitted appeared for the senior MBBS exam in November/December 2007 and successfully completed the internship in February 2009. The final approval from MCI was obtained in February 2009. The number of beds was increased to 510 beds . They started ICCU and NICU. The graph of patients in and out is constantly increasing. Currently, patient turnover has tripled and transfer to higher centers has practically ceased
The Post-BSC Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (PGDMLT) was launched in 2005 with a capacity of 10 people. Graduate courses in medical sciences began in May 2010 (11 subjects, 24 MD/MS, 6 degrees) and in May 2011 (6 subjects, 13 MD/MS, 9 degrees). The BPMTs (Bachelor of Paramedical Technology) were launched (67 person capacity) in July 2011. Diploma in Nursing (GNM). 20 admissions) took over the district hospital in 2011.
The birth of this school has an interesting story. There was a regional imbalance of medical colleges and seats in 6 areas of Maharashtra. The MUHS had introduced the Honorable Governor His Excellency Hon P. C. Alexander and Chief Minister Hon Vilasrao Deshmukh. Three new state governments. Managed medical schools were established in Kolhapur, Akola and Latur. The certificate of essentiality was obtained in October 2002 and the authorization from MCI in January 2003.
